Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is abuse, or the threat of abuse, by an individual with whom you are related by blood, are married or domestic partners, are dating or used to date, live or lived together, or have a child. The statutory definition of abuse is broad, and includes more than physical violence. Abuse also includes the threat of physical violence, striking, sexual assault, harassing, stalking, disturbing the peace, destroying personal property, and verbal emotional or psychological abuse.

If you are a victim of domestic violence, the attorneys at YR are experienced in obtaining Domestic Violence Restraining Orders, which impose orders to end the violence and protect individuals from further victimization. Our firm will support you through every step of the process in applying for and obtaining a Temporary and Permanent Restraining Order.

Unfortunately, all too often, allegations of domestic violence are used in family law cases to obtain preferential custodial arrangements, to force a party to vacate the family home, or for leverage in negotiations surrounding the underlying case. The attorneys at YR are equally experienced in aggressively defending against these types of allegations.
